L’Etang de l’Archevêque

A stone’s throw from our campsite, a magnificent parkland of 23 hectares including a 12 hectare lake, which has now been classified as an area of outstanding beauty for its flora and fauna. A popular destination for ramblers and families with picnic tables and an extensive natural playground.

Villedômer

Visit the village of Villedômer, which is just a 5 minute walk from the centre of the campsite. A village fleuri, it has a 10th century church st Vincent et st Gilles where one of the squires of Villedômer is buried. With its own Mairie, library, newsagents, hairdressers, chemist, bakers, restaurant, supermarket and tennis courts, you will not need to travel any further!

Chateaux

With over 40 chateaux in the surrounding area, come and soak in the richness of the heritage that is on your doorstep waiting to be explored. Discover the grandeur of Chambord, the beauty of Chenonceau and the horticultural delights of Chaumont and Villandry to name but a few!

Amboise

A visit to the Loire valley would be incomplete without a visit to the royal town of Amboise. With the royal chateau  inhabited by Francois 1, it also boasts the Clos Lucé, final resting place of Leonardo da Vinci where there is a splendid exhibition of his many inventions. Take the opportunity here to wander around the pedestrian streets, have a coffee or an ice cream in one of the many cafés or even go to the evening market every Tuesday during July and August to sample the local delicacies and buy your souvenirs. Don’t forget the aquarium, a must for children who seek an alternative to the chateaux, the cat fish reach a length of 2 metres and have to be seen to be believed!

Zoo

Visit Beauval in Saint-Aignan – considered to be the most beautiful zoo in France. Don’t miss the spectacular bird display and the sea lion show which is guaranteed to amaze you.

Tours

Visit Tours, the home of Martin of Tours, reluctant bishop of Tours in AD 371. Have a coffee in the old town centre, visit the Chateau of Tours, the fine art museum with its magnificent blue cedar or the natural history museum with its collection of repossessed snakes!

St Jacques de Compostello

Created in 1983, we are on the official pilgrimage cycle route from Holland to Santiago in Spain and provide lodging as well as spiritual refreshment for the pilgrims with our chapel. Come and join our morning pilgrim prayers and Sunday afternoon celebrations during the season.

Loire à velo

Loire à velo – a cycle route of an immense 800km that follows the Loire river and is the Eurovelo 6 section of the Eurovelo route that crosses Europe. Created in 1995, the route spans 4,400km from the Atlantic to the Black sea and includes the Loire and the Danube rivers.
